Living in an old house in la France profonde certainly introduces you to new fauna and flora. Our first night in our medieval house we were woken up by what sounded like heavy footed men tossing the caber! It turned out to be fouines or stone martins. Lovely creatures but noisy and can be destructive, liking to chew on cables! Last winter sangliers/wild boar turned our little orchard, the latest lovingly created area of our garden into something resembling a tank trap! We have resigned ourselves to the cratered surface of the grass and step gingerly to avoid twisted ankles. But I wouldn't change a thing! I gardened in the shade of our abri several mornings this week being whistled at by our returning golden oriele, a regular summer visitor along with the swallows and nightingale. Bliss!
What a delight to read your animal rescue story and all the fascinating experiences with wildlife, Erin! Your little ecosystem is healthy also thanks to your kindness and commitment, and the small and sometimes bigger friends are lucky to have you as their generous 'hosts'. It's not by chance that Super pheasant has chosen JB as his two-legged friend, I think, and am looking forward to future stories of encounters with the fascinating species you live in harmony with. As a 'hedgehog-mama' who has rescued a few prickly friends I sympathise a lot ;-). Thanks for the smile your beautiful writing conjures, and all best wishes for you, JB and the whole Bourneau menagerie! <3
That was a great insight into life inside and outside your chateau. Being so close to nature is fantastic. Delighted your baby jackdaw was rescued by his family. 👏I would love to hear about JB’s family home and business. Thank you.❤️
Ah the amazing geometry of the Chateau from above! How beautiful it is. And life in the country is a lesson- or rather a series of lessons. I’d love to hear more about anything you write, as I vicariously wonder what some of these strange creatures are! Perhaps some stories about JB’s family farm would be fun.
Like a fairy tale! I thoroughly enjoyed today's musings! I remember the first time I saw a river est or ragondin! We see bats here sometimes in the evenings, but never close up. Deer, groundhog and armadillos sometimes come to our yard.
I am so happy monseigneur Jaques D'or found his parents. It is a special place to live, a chateau surrounded by land. I was never fond of the Loir, they kill so much life stock and Rasputin is hunted in France, unfortunately. And glow worms, so special. I think fire flies already pure magic. I am afraid Jackdaws practice faul language just like Swallows are massive gossips. Birds!
I’d really love to hear more about JB’s family farm and what it all entails! ❤️
Oh yes! So much to tell about his family home and business. I have lots of stories
Yes Erin tell us some more about JB’s family, by the way the Jackdaw story was lovely.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. I’d love to start another series about my Burgundy days
